Frozen: A Movie Review #redboxrental

So my family loves Redbox! As much as we enjoy seeing a good movie on the big screen, the movie theater is typically out of our price range. When we went to see the Lego Movie, it still cost us over $30 to see a matinee; and we all shared a large soda and popcorn! Call me stingy, but that seems like an awful lot of money. I don't mind every now and then as a special treat, but I'd much rather rent from Redbox.
So recently, my family and I sat down together and watched Frozen after I was finally lucky enough to locate it in one of the many Redboxes in the city where I attend college. We've been trying to have family movie nights roughly once a month. We've already watched the Lego Movie and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2. Frozen was, big surprise, my pick.

Quick Ratings

  • Story: 4/5

Fearless optimist Anna teams up with Kristoff in an epic journey, encountering Everest-like conditions, and a hilarious snowman named Olaf in a race to find Anna's sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom in eternal winter. Quoted from IMDb
This may have been a total mom pick, but all three of the boys loved it. Yes, even my husband. Actually, my husband announced that we will definitely be buying Frozen sometime in the future. Gabriel was especially fond of Olaf, a quirky, dim witted snowman, you can't help but love!

The story is nothing spectacular, though it's certainly no snooze fest. I'm not sure how many innovative, wow-worthy stories Disney has left, considering the multitude of movies they have already produced. I would probably call this a typical Disney story, but a good story, nonetheless.
The entertainment part only falls short in a few places where it's just so ridiculous, it feels a little forced. I think this appeals more to children than it does to adults like me, but my husband also enjoys this kind of humor/entertainment, at times. For the most part, Frozen was filled with silliness and ridiculousness that we just loved. Adults and children alike can find this movie enjoyable and funny.
This movie was another great pick and a great Redbox rental choice! Have you ever used Redbox? What is your favorite way to watch movies?
Today is letter 'F' for the A to Z Challenge. I chose to review Frozen, a Disney movie we recently watched as a family, in honor of the letter 'F'.

    1. Oh man! Redbox is great! Sometimes when we're on a roadtrip we'll rent a movie on the way out of town and return it to another Redbox when we get to our destination!

    2. I did not know there wasn't a Redbox equivalent in the UK! It's like a DVD vending machine. Very awesome.

And Jillian I just love that you can return anywhere.

  3. We watched Frozen this past weekend {rented it from Redbox too!} I had high hopes for it since everyone is ranting & raving about it - but I honestly wasn't that impressed. It's not bad, but it's personally not something I would add to our collection. I think it was all the singing! It was still good to watch though. I think I'm too much of a "boy" mom now. I can see why little girls like it!

    1. I don't have any little girls. LOL. Some of the music was really corny, especially from the little sister and her prince dude. That was why this didn't get all 5's from me. I'm not a big musical fan, so cheesy musical was even worse. I just adore Olaf though!

  5. It's amazing that something as big and culturally significant as a brick and mortar video store just a few years ago can now be condensed down into a vending machine. It's actually amazing that people still use DVD's at all, but I guess they haven't become quite as obsolete as CD's yet.

All that said, I'm looking forward to this one. My wife and I used to go to the movies all the time before our son was born. Hopefully when he gets a bit older we can go again on occasion. In the meantime watching from home will have to do, and this looks like one that we will all get a kick out of.

    1. I still use CDs, also. Of course, I just got a cell phone after about 4 years without one. Anyway, I still go to the movie store, also. Not frequently and I always forget to return on time (WHY!?) so I always owe them a late fee. However, Family Video has free kids movies. So, sometimes I just go in there and get those. However, if we really want to see something not on redbox, we still go there.

Personally, I don't like everything being digital. I like physical copies. That kind of digital storage space can be pricey or slow your technology down too. Both of which suck.

  6. I LOVE Frozen. As a mother of 2 girls it's very nice they finally have a princess to look to who didn't need "true loves kiss" to break the "spell". We get a lot of our "rentals" from the library, I LOVE free :)
